Overview
Beginning in 2028, the Campbell Clinic Foundation will begin facilitating two 1-year Adult Reconstruction Fellowships accredited by the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons.
Operative training
Each fellow will participate as a team member in the operating room, enabling exposure to perioperative care management and decision-making. Fellows will receive graded responsibility in the OR according to their level and their demonstrated skills and attention to details and the degree of preparation for each case. Hip surgical approaches will include anterior, direct lateral, and posterolateral; knee exposures include medial and lateral parapatellar, and extensile exposures including the quadriceps snip and tibial tubercle osteotomy. Cemented and non-cemented implants will be used.
Fellows will work in ambulatory arthroplasty, in-patient hospital, and clinic settings, gaining knowledge of medical issues surrounding arthritis and degenerative conditions of the hip and knee joints. They will work with attending faculty to cover all matters related to the professional care of patients, including initial assessment of the patient in the clinic setting, assisting in surgery, coordinating discharge instructions, and postoperative follow-up.
Education
This fellowship will also focus on education. Teaching opportunities include weekly Adult Reconstruction conferences, Friday Afternoon Meetings, the weekly didactic conference for UTHSC-Campbell Clinic residents, Journal Clubs, as well as assisting residents in surgery.
Weekly Subspecialty Conference Attendance
The Adult Reconstruction Team conference is held every Thursday at 6:30 am in the Wolf River Conference Room, which includes attending surgeons, fellows, and all residents on the Adult Reconstruction service.
Research & resources
Facilities are available for research projects within the various departments of the University of Tennessee Health Science Center. The Campbell Clinic Foundation provides fellows with research support, including study coordinators who facilitate regulatory matters, statistical analysis, library services, and literature reviews, data tracking and subject management, plus medical writers for advising, editing, and other production resources.
Fellows have access to industry-supported subspecialty cadaver labs and courses, basic science PhDs and a simulation center within the UTHSC College of Medicine.
The Campbell Clinic Foundation has several service programs each year, including a student mentorship program for high school and college students.
