Seven subspecialty fellowships at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center – Campbell Clinic, facilitated by the Campbell Clinic Foundation.

The programs

The University of Tennessee Health Science Center – Campbell Clinic Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and Biomedical Engineering offers some of the world’s top programs for graduate medical education. Campbell Clinic Foundation facilitates this exceptional training and development for newly minted orthopaedic surgeons through seven subspecialty fellowships.

What's offered

Full year accredited fellowships include: Foot and Ankle (two Fellows); Hand; Trauma; Pediatric Orthopaedics; Sports Medicine and Shoulder/Elbow; and beginning in 2028, Adult Reconstruction (two fellows). It also offers a 6-week Endoscopic Spine Surgery Fellowship and, partnering with UTHSC, a 12-month Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship.

In the OR and the clinic

A year of operative and clinical experience

Fellows gain significant operative and clinical experience, thanks to considerable time in the operating room and clinics with faculty, residents and advance practice providers throughout the year. Each team has a weekly conference, where attendees participate in case review, research discussion, and collaboration. Funded subspecialty courses, visiting professor lectures, cadaveric labs, and mentorship opportunities augment the hands-on and didactic experience.

"Campbell Clinic stands apart from most high-volume centers by limiting its fellowships to just one or two participants per specialty, thereby maximizing the educational and clinical components of the training experience. Fellows are given maximum exposure to a variety of surgical cases and have ample opportunity to work one–on-one with key staff members and surgeons within that specialty."

Research support

Backed by coordinators, statisticians and editors

Fellows are encouraged to pursue research during their training year with support from the Campbell Clinic Foundation, including clinical research coordinators, library and editorial services, and statistical support. This allows fellows to study important aspects of orthopaedic research and collaborate with national centers and subspecialty experts. From retrospective record reviews to prospective, randomized clinical trials, fellows engage in myriad musculoskeletal studies and innovations.
