Overview
This is a six-week, single fellow experience focused on endoscopic and minimally invasive spine surgery. It is intended for surgeons who have completed spine training and want to incorporate endoscopic surgery into their practice, or as an adjunct to a completed spine fellowship or neurosurgery residency. Fellows will experience a high-volume endoscopic surgical practice, learning uniportal and biportal endoscopic techniques, and gaining hands-on experience; they will have been part of over 50 endoscopic cases by the end of the fellowship.
Uniportal endoscopic techniques will include medial branch transection, interlaminar discectomy, transforaminal lumbar discectomy, transforaminal thoracic discectomy, unilateral laminotomy for bilateral decompression (ULBD), and cervical foraminotomy (+/- discectomy). Outpatient non-endoscopic cases will include transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion (TLIF), anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF), and cervical disc arthroplasty.
The goal for exiting fellows is to overcome the “learning curve” under the guidance of an experienced endoscopist. Fellows will participate in at least one publishable research paper.
Additional training
Fellows will have the option to participate in an industry course to familiarize them with technique and instrumentation for a weekend before the fellowship starts.
