Several years ago, Dr. James Guyton asked, “Is one type of implant used in hip replacement surgery more likely to result in a periprosthetic fracture over time?”
Our Campbell Clinic pediatric orthopaedic surgeons, led by Dr. Derek Kelly and then-Chief Resident, Dr. Stephanie Chen, designed a prospective, randomized study to look at the outcomes and complications between casting completed by orthopaedic surgeons (MD) and by physical therapists (PT).
“This transformative, outcomes-based research we do reaches patients very quickly, and we see the difference.” — Frederick M. Azar, MD, Chief of Staff, Campbell Clinic
The Campbell Award for Research and Innovation honors individuals with outstanding clinical and basic science investigations that contribute to the understanding, care, and prevention of bone and joint conditions and injuries.
For his achievements in innovation, research, design, and development of orthopaedic implants, we were pleased to recognize Dr. Robert Medoff at the Saturday night Gala.
