Beginning in 2028, the University of Tennessee Health Science Center-Campbell Clinic Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and Biomedical Engineering will offer two one-year Adult Reconstruction Fellowships. Interviews will take place on-site at the Campbell Clinic in winter 2026/2027.
The fellowships, accredited by the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons (AAHKS), are designed to provide comprehensive exposure to the clinical- and research-related aspects of total joint reconstruction in adults. Emphasis will be placed on the challenges of complex and/or revision arthroplasty.
Fellows will have graded and progressive responsibility in the operating room according to their demonstrated skills, attention to details, and degree of preparation. Each fellow will be expected to keep an up-to-date log of all cases in which he or she was the operating surgeon, teaching assistant or first assistant. They also will participate in weekly conferences and be responsible for organizing the annual cadaver lab. The submission of at least one research paper will be mandatory for graduation.
Fellows will have performed about 500 primary hip and knee arthroplasties (250 minimum) and 100 revision hip and knee arthroplasties (25 minimum) by the end of their fellowships. Hip surgical approaches will include anterior, direct lateral, and posterolateral; knee exposures will be medial and lateral parapatellar, and extensile exposures including the quadriceps snip and tibial tubercle osteotomy.
The Campbell Clinic Foundation will provide resources and support, including a $1,500 stipend; education travel scholarships; licensing and credentialing fees; and texts including Campbell’s Operative Orthopaedics, Hoppenfeld’s Surgical Exposures in Orthopaedics: The Anatomic Approach, and Insall and Scott Surgery of the Knee textbooks. Fellows may attend the annual Alvin J. Ingram Lecture, AAHKS and American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) meetings.

The Adult Reconstruction Team conference is held every Thursday at 6:30 am in the Wolf River Conference Room, which includes attending surgeons, fellows, and all residents on the Adult Reconstruction service.
